Puerto Maldonado is the capital city of the Madre de Dios region. In this busy town live about 60.000 people. It is only a 30 minutes flight from Cuzco but it got a completely different feeling to it. People fly to this city to visit the nearby jungle. The lodge we work with is not luxurious but certainly not extreme basic either. The are about 40 bungalows and each bungalow got 2 beds and a private bathroom with shower but there is no hot water. In the bungalows is no electricity but you can recharge batteries at certain hours in the communal dining room. This is also the area where they serve the meals and cold drinks.

Programme
Puerto Maldonado 3 days / 2 nights
Day 01:
Arrival in Puerto Maldonado. Tansfer to the village where we will get on our boat and begin the journey on the Madre de DiosRiver. On the way, you might be able to observe the alligators, turtles, herons and other animals. Arriving at the Amazon Lodge, where you will receive a typical welcome drink and settle in a comfortable bungalow. After lunch we will visit a lake where it is relatively easy to spot a lot of caimans.
Day 02:
After breakfast. we’ll start our hike to the Apu Victor lake. During the journey we will observe the caimans cave. Then we continue and arrive at the majestic APU VICTOR LAKE with its beautiful crystalline waters, surrounded by huge swamps, giant trees. Later we will climb up our AMAZON OBSERVATORY, from where we will have a panoramic view of the lake. We will observe parrots, guacamayos, toucans, camungo, shanshos, herons, and some other animals like caimans, turtles and if we are lucky enough we could observe one of the most spectacular animals of the jungle the giant nutria. After some hours at the lake, we will return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon we will visit Monkey Island. Located at only five minutes from the lodge, in the middle of the Madre de Dios river, the monkey island hosts different monkey species: starting from the noisy ones, the Maquisapas, the happy Achuñis, and the very impressive Frailes to the very little and funny “leoncitos” little lions. On the way back we might see one of the amazing sunsets the jungle is famous for.

Breakfast and transfer to the airport.

Today we hike into the deep jungle to the lost lake called “Coche perdido”. This is a refuge and feeding ecosystem for an enormous variety of animals. Here, we might see Otters, Turtles, Caimans, Tapirs a variation of birds and there is even a chance to spot a Jaguar.
Day 04:
Breakfast and transfer to the airport.
